Blue Jays Spring Training Recap – March 7, 2012

The Toronto Blue Jays played two games today on the spring training schedule as they split the squads, some interesting developments today.

*Toronto Blue Jays (SS) defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates today 8-4, here is the recap.

Yan Gomes’ pinch-hit homer snapped a tie in the seventh inning Wednesday and the Toronto Blue Jays went on to an 8-6 Grapefruit League victory over Pittsburgh, their third consecutive exhibition win over the Pirates.

The Blue Jays had rallied into a 4-4 tie in the fifth as the first five batters reached base against Brad Lincoln. Travis Snider’s two-run homer, his first, made it 4-3 and was followed by consecutive doubles by Travis d’Arnaud and Adam Lind to tie the score.

*Toronto Blue Jays (SS) tied the Boston Red Sox 3-3, here is the recap.

Edwin Encarnacion drove in a pair of runs while Toronto’s Brandon Morrow and Boston’s Justin Germano each threw two scoreless innings in a 3-3 draw on Wednesday afternoon at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

The Blue Jays first got on the scoreboard in the third thanks to an erratic inning by Justin Thomas. Boston’s left-hander surrendered a leadoff single to centre field and then proceeded to hit and walk the following two batters.

Blue Jays Up next: In the first of three spring meetings with the team they’ll try to unseat as AL East champs, the Blue Jays host the Yankees in a 1:05 p.m. ET start at Dunedin on Thursday. Left-hander Brett Cecil will make his second start.
