The Blue Jays are finally showing signs of life and are riding a five game winning streak after a four game sweep on the road over the Texas Rangers. None of the games were particularly competitive and the Jays are getting key contributions from some unlikely sources. Esmil Rogers and Chien-Ming Wang both picked up key victories in the series and the lineup has gotten big hits from a lot of different sources.
The Blue Jays are now only four games under .500 and while getting back into the playoff race is still a long shot we are at least seeing why there was so much hype and focus on the Blue Jays this past offseason. Since our past series review (taking 2/3 from the Rangers) the Blue Jays have made up three games on first place in the AL East and our run differential improved by 11 runs. Can this momentum continue?
I don’t see any way that Esmil Rogers isn’t given a long look as a starting pitcher for the Blue Jays down the stretch. If he can stay healthy this could be a huge coup for the Jays front office.
Wes recapped game four and had a look at our defensive improvements recently:
It’s time to take a peek at the defense. The Jays’ defense has improved. It’s not great improvement, but it’s noticeable on the field and by the numbers. There a fewer multi-error games, fewer brain cramps, and the players—notably middle infielders, Munenori Kawasaki and Emilio Bonifacio—know each other better. All of these factors have contributed to a slight climb in their performance relative to the AL and their previous efforts.
